Developer Environment Platform

One trusted user, a deployed Coder control plane, and a workspace path that still needs qualification.

Control plane · verified Workspace · not launched App/test service · proposed
White-background architecture diagram. An intended developer request leads to the deployed Coder Community control plane and scoped provisioner. External PostgreSQL and Prometheus metrics are verified. The Terraform template is defined but not imported or applied; no workspace or home volume exists. A separate short-lived app and test service is only proposed. Four qualification gates remain.
The pilot currently stops at the control plane. Solid teal marks verified setup; dashed amber marks defined work that has not been applied; slate marks proposals.

Control plane

  • Coder Community is deployed in the existing homelab Kubernetes environment for one trusted user.
  • External PostgreSQL connectivity and migrations are verified.
  • Prometheus is scraping Coder metrics.

Workspace template

  • The Terraform definition describes an unprivileged workspace and a 1 GiB node-local home volume.
  • It has not been imported or applied; no workspace or volume exists.
  • First-admin setup, workspace launch, persistence, and recovery remain unqualified.

App and test environments

  • A separate future service would need its own delivery and resource lifecycle.
  • CI trust, artifact provenance, expiry, cleanup, and recovery still need design and qualification.
  • Its teardown must remain separate from developer home files.

Evidence needed before calling this a workspace service

  1. Complete first-admin setup and import the reviewed workspace template.
  2. Launch a workspace and verify its Coder agent connection.
  3. Prove home-directory persistence over three stop/start cycles.
  4. Test network boundaries, backup, and recovery.

No workspace qualification gate has passed.
